Happy Father's Day - A "DAD"ication

In case you missed all the commercials...Tomorrow is Father's Day!

So what better way to celebrate the day and (stay on the net) than to join in this little "DAD"ication. I've started a discussion at http://www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/fathers-day-a-dadication and you can join in too! Afterall my blog is not titled First Time Dad for nothing, right LOL

Think about the your dad, papa, daddy, pop or whatever pet name you have for him, and try to write about the best memory (happy or sad) you had with him! Maybe he won't get to read it (like my Papa who passed away when I was seven and who I don't have much memories but my mum took on the job very well :) ) but some of us will! And maybe, just maybe we'd appreciate our own father that much more.

F is for the friend he is!
A if for the advise he gave!
T is for the Teacher he was!
H is for the Healer he had to be!
E is for the entertainer he sometimes is! and
R is for the Role Model he was to us!

Happy Father's Day to all who are and who will be! :)

PS If we can get even one person who has lost touch with her or his dad to as least call, then we've achieved something! Don't you think so? :)

Take A Wild Viral Ride

I was introduced to the Viral Tags Blog Rank Boosting Experiment recently by Mariuca. Click here for the original matrix. You need to copy the matrix, change the Host Tag to three words that you want to use, and add their tag into the matrix, if it isn't there already. Then break three eggs and stir until...oops that's another recipe LOL

Important: when someone adds a matrix, be sure to add them to your list. Then, spread the word. This is the current matrix as it stands

========= Copy and Paste below this line ==========

Instructions:

Important Update - Please read
here!

1. Copy and paste the matrix of "ViralTags" below courtesy of
Founders Cafe (to support Jimmy's quest of launching his own Internet Startup with a shoestring budget, please consider subscribing to his Full RSS Feed to see his triumphs and struggles in real time).

2. Substitute the Host Tag and one of the "Viral Tags" in the matrix with your anchor text of choice with your blog's URL. Please keep anchor text to a max of 3 words to keep the matrix size manageable.

3. When you get a ping back from someone that has your link in one of their "Viral Tags", practice good karma by copying his/her Host Tag's anchor text (automatically the associated link will also be copied) and paste it over one of your "Viral Tags" below.

4. Encourage and invite your readers to do the same and soon this can grow virally.

Car Seats for Kids...

Today was a bad day....we were involved in an accident while on our way to Ikea. Fortunately everyone was okay. To tell you the truth I was thinking about writing a post on the use ofor lack of use of car seats for children. May a time I've seen children standing on the back seat or even the front seat of a car. The one that took the cake was a father carrying a baby on his lap while driving. Today was no different, I saw a little girl not much older than my little one standing on the back set of her car so I thought it would be a good thing to write about today. A few minutes later a the traffic lights near Taman Tun a van failed to stop in time and rear ended my car. Two other cars piled into us after that. I'm so glad that we have made it a point to always keep my daughter in her car seat. I'd hate to think of the consequences. So parents out there try to make it a point to keep your children safetly buckled in...you won't regret it! :)

Close Encounter of the Rempit kind

Mat Rempit aka Motorcycle Menaces are all over the place nowadays. Yesterday I had a close encounter with them while my wife and daughter were in the car with me. I had stopped at a junction to get on a main road when three motorcycles came by and were a little careless in the way they rode. I thought to myself that they were probably Mat Rempits because of that. The next thing you know they were on the main road totally disregarding an approaching van. They rode around the van weaving in and out. Then one of them did a couple of wheelies on the road right in front of me. If he had fallen I'd have had to wash my car if you catch my drift. Those foolhardy lads will not live long if they keep this up and I can't say that I'll be sorry for them because whatever mishap befalls them will be of their own doing. The only problem is innocents might get hurt because of their antics.

Family, fruits and fun in Ipoh

My vacation continues! This time we went up north to quaint little Ipoh to visit the in-laws. As always its a cultural barrier cause they hardly speak English and I don't speak Hakka, Cantonese or Mandarin. We went ther on Monday Morning and as usual I get bored pretty quick because I've been to all those interesting ancient caves that house Buddhist shrines many times over. Anyway, once we got there we sat out front in the porch as always cause it's just th thing to do. All the family was there with one more of my wife's sisters coming from Sekinchan a little later. A little while into the conversation of which I was fooling around with my phone the neighbour called my mother-in-law over to give her a sack of freshly plucked corn from their farm somewhere. So my sisters-in-law waste no time in shucking the husk and pretty soon it's sen to the kitchen. There was a sudden downpour and then the hot steaming corn came out and we dug in. It was truly fantastic especially with the mist of water from the cold rain that ever so gently sprayed us. Even the little one enjoyed tucking in too. There was plenty for everone. Before we were done with that the mangoes came out. Expert fingers deftly carved into the juicy fruit and we enjoyed that too. Soon the rain subsided and the sister-in-law from Sekinchan arrived and brought more mangoes and Jambu Air. We had that after dinner together with some Rastali bananas. The little one loved the sweet sour mangoes and even finished a whole banana which is achievement for the finicky eater.

The next day was a little less boring. We had breakfast at my father-in-laws favourite restaurant which has a huge tree thatshades the front of the place. We all ate Wantan noodles and Yong Tau Foo which is the speciality of the area. I had the best iced white coffee there. So good that I had a second glass. Even the little one enjoyed her Wantan noodles and fish balls which wifey dilligently cut into bite sized pieces. The best part was there were about fifteen of us including the kiddies and the entire meal with drinks cost an unbelieveable RM45 only. After that lovely meal we headed down to the little wet market down the road to walk around and take a look see. We found an adorable pair of "Buayas" (local Crocs) which has little clip-on star fish and ladybirds for the little one for only RM8. Her little "Geen" (thats how she says green) shoes. Dad-in-law bought a huge pile of durians and duku for later too.

In the afternoon we went over to my bro-in-laws new house. He was having a house warming party that night but had to do some traditional Chinese rituals to cleanse and bless the place. Now that got a little hot because it was in the afternoon and the sinseh had to burn some stuff and that meant the fans had to be put off and well you can imagine. The tents were up but somehow only managed to magnify the heat. We quickly found excuses to leave and headed back to get down to business....

Hmm...business is actually a mahjong session. Now this is where the fun started and the boredom ended. During my last visit I learnt how to play mahjong so in actual fact this is my favourite part of the trip to the in-laws. Yup, even with all the communication barriers I play and we manage to always have a good time. Can you imagine me with three of my sisters-in-law at the mahjong table. What a sight! The durian and duku came out to add to the moment. My wife's neice went over to my wife's aunt's (not very close due to minor family fued) place down the road to buy some guava that they grow on their farm. At RM2 bucks a kilo it was a steal. We ordered five kilos to bring back to to my family here. Anyway, I think more mangoes and some pineapple came out too. Now before you think we were negligent parents let me add that the little one was having her afternoon nap at the time. When she got up she had a tough time communicating with her cousins but that was fixed with a universal go between. A ball! And she had a ball too after that! Of course she was curious as to what mummy and daddy (we took turns so that we could also keep an eye on her) were doing with those little white tiles every now and then but that didn't stop her play time.

Later we headed for the big do at my brother-in-laws place. The food was great but I stood out like a sore thumb! Of course I'm used to that because this happend the last time we were down too when we attended a niece's wedding and there was a much larger crowd. He had invited some of his new neighbours but I guess they either came earlier or later or maybe didn't want to get sore thumb syndrome..hahaha

The next day it was mahjong in the morning after a brief trip to the breakfast place and more wonderful white coffee. We moseyed over to the market again for a quick walkabout but because it had rained earlier not all the knick knack shops were open. This morning was lucky for me because I got on a winning streak. Ms eldest sis-in-law brought white coffee from her place in Bercham saying that it was the best but I somehow preferred the white coffee at the breakfast hole. A yellow watermelon somehow found it's way to the mahjong table. The little one who was my lucky charm that morning because she wanted to sit on my lap enjoyed tucking into a small slice of that too. Believe me it's not easy playing mahjong with one hand...hahaha...good thing wifey was helping. The little one didn't want to play ball so to speak but it was okay. I think she was getting tired from all the past activities.

Soon it was time to head for home and bid farewell to everyone and plans were made to meet again at Chinese New Year. The drive home was uneventful although it was extremely hot outside. The little one slept through the whole journey home so we didn't have to stop. On the way back we heard the good news about Pak Lah! So ended the trip to Ipoh!

My belated condolences to the family of the late great Loga...you touched many with your music and your legacy will live on in us all!

Taking Time Off in Sunny Singapore

Last week we went to Singapore for a short family vacation. Singapore you ask...for a vacation! Well at first thats what we thought too but we decided to risk it. We were booked for Sentosa Island and it was years since i'd last been there. When we got at the Siloso Beach Resort our first impression was the hotel lobby...it was not impressive at all and we thought for a moment that we had blundered.

We had to walk down a long winding wooden pathway to our room too towing luggage and baby along without help. The the pass key wouldn't open our room door an dthat took a few minutes to get sorted out. However once we got into the room we understood the concept. It was a resort facing the sea which was built around the trees and greenery.

We had the greatest time at Sentosa. I'd recommend the place to anyone. The beach was clean and fresh. There were loads of women in bikinis helped by the fact that they the FIVB volleyball tournament was ongoing. The nightlife was great - opposite the hotel was Cafe del Mar where there was even a bed in the nightclub - cool. There was lots to do even for my little one like the sound, light, laser show and petting the pink dolphin at dolphin lagoon. Plus a host of other things we didn't ahve time to do. Never even ventured to Orchard Rd. cause there was so much to do. Besides the place is just so clean! We had such a great time that we wanna go back there in December!
Since a picture paints a thousand words I've inserted loads of pictures to do just that!

A bit of cheer for Liverpool fans on this woeful day!

Two guys were sitting in a bar. The first guy said to the second guy,"You know my parents are forcing me to get married to this so called homely girl from a village whom I haven't even met once. It's called an arranged marriage. I don't want to marry a woman whom I don't love...I told them that openly and now have a hell lot of family problems." The second guy said, "Talking about love marriages...I'll tell you my story. I married a widow whom I deeply loved and dated for 3 years. "After a couple of years, my father fell in love with my step-daughter and so my father became my son-in-law and I became my father's father-in-law. My daughter is my mother and my wife my grandmother. More problems occurred when I had a son. My son is my father's brother and so he my uncle. Situations turned worse when my father had a son. Now my father's son i.e. my brother is my grandson. Ultimately, I have become my own grand father and I am my own grandson. And you say you have family problems…………….Gimme a break !!"

The moral of the story...while your problems may seem bad but when compared to others it might not be as bad as it may seem! Take one step at a time and don't look back!

So Liverpool fans cheer up and get on with life...because there is always next year...

Loss for words...

I want to post something today because it's going to be a while before I do so again...but i'm at a loss for words. I find that unusual because i always have someting to say about anything. Anyway i just tought i'd gte in the mood if i stay here long enough...haha
Well it's been my first week at trying my hand at blogging...and i kinda like it. Although i found out there is more to find out! Yup communities and trains and i don't know what else. It's going to be a journey. In case you're wondering whic island i just swam ashore from...i actually have not loged on at home since my wife got pregnant...that's almost three years! Believe it! Of course in the office it's different but in the office there isn't that much time to play...work work work...and boss if you're reading this...can i get that raise now...hahaha...But seriously...i haven't used this old pc in ages...thats why i keep getting all the those error messages...Been meaning to get me a laptop but never seem to have the time...my goal is to get one this year. SO now that i've said it i have to do it! hehe

Okay feeling a little woozy...time to head off to the land of nod...and join the little one...but being me last day without wifey...i'll probably go watch some tv or something...Yeah wifey returns tomorrow...yahoo...little one is going to be thrilled...i'm sure she misses her mummy just doesn't know why she's gone for so long.

Ciao!

Where has the time gone...

Little one is asleep. So thought i'd take a few minutes to write something today. She's been giving trouble the past few nights at bed-time. You know when we found out that wifey was expecting everyone told/warned us that we would never get a peaceful nights sleep for a long time. Boy they sure weren't kidding. For allof you planning to start a family be forewarned. Hey you can't avaoid it. Besides the rewards far outweigh the pain. To see that smiling face when you get home...so excited that you are back...it's priceless. All your problems that you had at work are forgotten. All your woes are forgotten. That horrible jam you were in...forgotten. All you want to do is just hug with the little one.

Believe me i have to go to the gym now to get in shape (might take a while :) ) so that i can keep up with her. I hate the fact that i have to lose time with her so that i can probably live longer to be with her but it's a fact because I neglegted my health before. SO now it's payback time. The hard part is coming back tired from the gym and trying to entertain an energetic two-year old. Word of advise stay/get in shape before you have kids or you'll regret it.

Wifey called this afternoon...she's leaving Chicago and going to Seattle right about now. She's missing the little one too. Funny thing is the little one stopped asking for her She used to be happy to kss a pic of mummy but i think she's a bit upset (believe me a two year old can get very upset) because yesterday wehn we gae her the pic she ignored it. One can only wonder what is going on in the little one's mind!

Might not be here for long. Once wifey gets back won't have much time for blogging. Besides i only thought i'd give it a try because me best bud said it was cool. It is niceto be able to speak your mind and have folks comment. Must get my new system first because this old one is really getting to me. So hard to make changes and add stuff...i'll just have to wait and see.

Anyway time to call it a night. Sandman's got my number and it's not the dude from Spidey3 hahaha.

Ciao!

Liverpool Lost but that's not important...

Yup Liverpool lost at Fulham (1-0). Well the focus now is on the CL so they did field an understrength side (and rested a few key players) but thats the problem... their reserves just aren't good enough. Just make sure we have a good squad in Athens.
When summer comes so will some new talent, I'm sure.

Anyway that's not important! The little one is still asleep so thought i get in few words before she's up. My litte one was really missing her mummy yesterday. I really felt bad. This is not the first time Mummy has gone away for work and it certainly won't be the last but last year when she went the little one was too young to miss her. This year she's two and knows how to miss her but doesn't understand yet why she's not back from "office" yet. Well I showed her a picture of her Mummy and that seemed to calm her down a little...for now at least. I'm counting the days till wifey is back. Speaking of which we made her a Mom's Day card for her cause she'll be back next Sunday. Just need to get a nice little cake (got to cut back on those calories - but that's another story) and then take her out for a nice lunch. Knowing me, I'll try to sneak her to Chutney Mary's in Bangsar which is my fav lunch spot right now. The food is excellent, well to me at least! I might even give a little review at a later date.

Good buddy it's not that i don't know how but more like my jurassic PC is just not good enough. I keep getting error messages when i try to make changes to the format. And I can't even make changes on the dashboard my friend and i don't even see the header. Anyway when you come later bring your laptop and we'll try from there. Thanks for bumming off from your beloved Agnes and the two lads to help me sort this little problem out.

Ciao!

Day Two - CATastrophe averted

No the CATastrophe had nothing to do with my little one. She slept like a baby (pun intended), although she did get up a couple of times looking for mummy. I managed to soothe her to sleep again without too much fuss. What i'm referring to is the feline maternity hospital i seem to have in my attic. In the past year there have been no less than three deliveries to i don't know how many kittens. For the life of me my neighbours house is empty but no they must snuggle up in my roof. I'm no cat lover nor a cat hater...but this is too much. Maybe cats love me...haha. Anyway the little monsters mew throughout the night and play cat type games up there (that's what probaby woke up my little one) and it can get pretty noisy especially in the dead of night. I'm trying to evict them but they always come back. So any cat lovers out there who want to share in the joy of having a little kitty to play with just give me a buzz and i'll see what i can do. No promises because those darn critters have sharp little claws just waiting to give you a gentle reminder that they like to be treated with care. Yo bud, thanks for the invite, might take you up on it but will give you a call first. Little one is asleep again...thats what i should be doing...but the indian rice i had just now hasn't digested yet. For indian rice lovers there is a little place down in old town that serves a mean prawn varuval (dry curry). If you can brave the smells of the market, it's right next door in the medan selera and is called Usha's. Give it a try sometime. Okay i'm starting to feel a little sleepy, might as well sleep now cause once the little one gets up it's playtime. believe me this morning was filled with Little Einstein's, and Handy Manny and Johnny and the sprite's. Don't worry these are all on your very own astro channels just that most folks without kids may never steer into the depths of the Playhouse Disney channel (63). Believe me i never did until recently too. Ah the joys of parenthood. Ciao.

Welcome!

Howdy folks...this is my first attempt at blogging so bear with me. My wife has just gone out of town for a week and i'm home alone with the baby. I thought that it might be hard with us alone and mom away but so far so good. In fact the little one is fast asleep so i decided to set up a blog for the hell of it to see what it's all about.
