The Beast

It started out as a fun night. My girlfriend…later to become my wife, a good friend named Poob and I had tagged along to accompany my best bud on a trip. He had to go to Seremban, which is a small town about 50 kilometers away from the city, to drop someone off for the weekend. It was nothing new and we had done it on many occasions before and this night was not any different….or so we thought.

You see, on the way back from Seremban we decided to sway from our usual route and take an old backroad to get back to the city. We were young and a little foolhardy then always seeking a little adventure to spice up our lackluster lives. That’s when the trouble started.

Firstly the road narrowed to a single lane. Next we came to the area where the grass war taller than the car we were in. I’m talking six or seven feet high at least and I remember thinking to myself that it was like elephant grass that I had seen on TV. Then the bright moonlight night slowly turned dark and foreboding and finally it started to rain lightly. Like in the movies, we thought nothing of all these little things and laughed and joked and sang songs while we continued foolishly on our merry way. I think in the back of our minds we were a little worried individually but there is always strength in numbers to give us false courage, isn’t there!

The trouble began when we reached a clearing and saw in the distance some people having some kind of party. However as we drove closer we saw that the brightly lit place was actually a temple. What in the world was those people doing in the temple in the middle of the night. They seemed to be celebrating and shouting so we drove on however as we neared them they started getting to the car and we saw that they were yelling and crying and somewhat hysterical. We panicked and really got spooked. You always hear of stories where people go missing and human sacrifices and we didn’t want to be part of that now did we. It was raining a little heavier by now and it was really scary. We drove on slowly through the crowd as they beckoned for us to stop.

No way were we going to. No way! It was so strange and weird and we were all worried because they seemed to surround the car and it was getting difficult to drive but we somehow edged out of there. As we drove away we wondered f they were some kind of cult or something and thanked our lucky stars that we got away unseated. Meanwhile, the rain got heavier.

Excited at the events that had just transpired we thankfully continued on our journey. The rain was blinding now! We could hardly see the road and what little we could was covered in mud. So we drove cautiously until we came to a fork in the road. We took the turning on the left and came to a locked gate. We tried to reverse but the tyres spun a bit. We had no choice so we kept trying until we managed to turn the car around.

Then we saw IT!

We were speechless. We remained quiet…I think no one dared say anything or make a wrong move. It was like as if time stood still for we could not hear the noise of the rain anymore or the engine or anyone. We just stared! All I can say was that it was huge. We could not make out IT’s features. What we could see through the blinding rain and the faint glow of the headlights was that it facing us. It had the two hooved feet. A stout bullish body and most fearsome was that it had it had horns on it’s huge head. It was the Beast!

Slowly we regained our composure if you could call it that. We backed up the car up to the old gate. We could not see the road back much as the water was starting to rise from the heavy rain. We started taking again. How were we going to get out of this alive? We really were worried and scared.

Then it dawned on us that the people at the temple might not have been trying to harm us but were trying to warn us not to go further. How stupid we were. It was too late now. We were stuck in the middle of nowhere on a cold dark rainy night and facing our worst nightmare. We thought that we were doomed.

We were not going to go down without a fight though. So we revved up the engine and drove slowly forward. All the time the Beast just stared in our direction. We edged closer. It continued gazing. Suddenly we could see the fork in the road again and we sped right out of there. The beast didn’t move towards us or try to stop us at all. We saw the Beast’s full figure as we drove past. But I will not describe it to you now. Not today not ever I hope.
We rejoiced. We were free we drove on and soon reached civilization again. Vowing never to do this foolish madness ever again. And if you think this is some made up cock and bull story…think again…this is a true account to the best of my memory of what happened to us that fateful night, I kid you not.

PS This is the first time I've told this story in public and I'm only doing it because I REALLY want to win the scary story contest for that cute blue mug down at Marzie's place to commemorate her 100th posting!! Congrats Mariuca! :)

GP! But the cult part was not the real scary part...it was what we we saw after that that was the really scary!

Wow GK...you certainly had me entranced in your story. I've never had an experience that scary. Good story!!

Jackie. Believe it was scary at that time...but there is a little twist at the end ...it really was a bull that we faced. But in the dark night and with the rain billowing down we just couldn't see anything. But we really did feel like it was something evil until we found out it was a cow LOL
